Cavity Wall Insulation Removal

Cavity Wall Insulation Fails

At SFIR Home Improvements, we pride ourselves on providing a personalized approach to every project we undertake and removing failed cavity wall insulation is no different.

Government figures estimate that over 6 million properties around the UK have had cavity wall insulation installed but not all of it has been completed correctly.

Of course the energy efficiency and benefits including making your home warmer and the cost saving make it very popular.

The one thing we have more of here in the UK is rain and generally we have a much damper climate, which means our properties are often exposed to high winds and even icy conditions.

This takes its toll on brick work, which can lead to gaps opening up in bricks or pointing and water getting into the cavity itself.

The whole point of insulation is to insulate. It stops air flow. The problem with this is that once it becomes wet, it is virtually impossible to dry out. Instead dampness and cold is drawn through cavity into the inside of the property.

Where cavity wall insulation fails you can see the result of this inside your property, it may be cold spots on walls in your home or unexplained patches of damp, it may show in a much stronger way as in the picture above.

Not only can this create uncomfortable living conditions, but the prolonged damp will also rust wall ties, an integral structural part of the property which can eventually mean the inner and outer walls can actually separate.

Damp insulation cannot be ignored. If you suspect your home might be affected, we recommend calling us out as soon as possible.

Why does cavity insulation fail?

SFIR Home Improvements Cavity wall removal, #cavity, #cavitywalls, #cavitywallinsulation,

The main reason cavity wall insulation fails can be due to many things. it can be caused by a poor drilling pattern or installation at the wrong density, which can be a major factor of failure and can cause dampness within the home.

Another reason could be your property already has penetrating or rising damp problems. Damp and mould appear on the walls when the cavity insulation gets wet inside, breaking down the properties insulation. It could be caused because the cavity wall was not appropriately cleared prior to the installation of the insulation. Poorly insulated property is another reason.

Whatever the reason, the inefficiency means that heat is lost through the walls and causes you to use more heating/electricity as well as the health issues associated with dampness.

Our SFIR Home Improvements team specialise in cavity wall insulation removal.

SFIR Home Improvements Cavity wall removal, #cavity, #cavitywalls, #cavitywallinsulation,

We can help you improve the exterior of your building with our renovation services. Our team will remove bricks from the wall, they will then have access to the failed wall insulation, this could be formaldehyde foam, it could be a polyurethane spray foam, another method used by the insulation companies is polystyrene beads, and then polystyrene beads with glue or it could be a blown rock wool product, whatever the insulation, we at SFIR Home Improvements can help.

If your property’s location is within a high wind and rain area then exposure to this can cause penetrating damp. If your property suffers from damage to external walls such as cracks within the render, pointing or brickwork. Believe it or not, not everyone's property is suitable or appropriate for cavity insulation, of course if It has not been installed correctly or if the cavity is suffering from blockages as a result of building works, these can all be reasons your cavity wall may be failing.
