Cavity Wall Insulation Removal

Cavity Wall Insulation Fails

At SFIR Home Improvements, we pride ourselves on providing a personalized approach to every project we undertake, and this includes the essential service of cavity wall removal when faced with failed cavity wall insulation.

Government figures estimate that over 6 million properties across the UK have had cavity wall insulation installed, but unfortunately, not all of it has been completed correctly.

The energy efficiency benefits of cavity wall insulation, such as making your home warmer and saving on costs, make it highly sought after.

However, the UK's damp climate, characterized by frequent rain and high winds, can take a toll on brickwork, often leading to gaps in bricks or pointing, which allows water to penetrate the cavity.

The primary purpose of insulation is to prevent airflow. Yet, once it becomes wet, it is nearly impossible to dry out, drawing dampness and cold into the interior of the property through the cavity.

When cavity wall insulation fails, the consequences can manifest inside your home, potentially as cold spots on walls or unexplained damp patches, as illustrated in the picture above.

This situation not only creates uncomfortable living conditions but can also lead to prolonged dampness that rusts wall ties, an integral structural component, which may eventually cause the inner and outer walls to separate.

Damp insulation cannot be ignored. If you suspect that your home might be affected by failed cavity wall insulation, we recommend contacting us for cavity wall removal as soon as possible.

Why does cavity insulation fail?

SFIR Home Improvements Cavity wall removal, #cavity, #cavitywalls, #cavitywallinsulation,

The main reason cavity wall insulation fails can be due to many things. it can be caused by a poor drilling pattern or installation at the wrong density, which can be a major factor of failure and can cause dampness within the home.

Another reason could be your property already has penetrating or rising damp problems. Damp and mould appear on the walls when the cavity insulation gets wet inside, breaking down the properties insulation. It could be caused because the cavity wall was not appropriately cleared prior to the installation of the insulation. Poorly insulated property is another reason.

Whatever the reason, the inefficiency means that heat is lost through the walls and causes you to use more heating/electricity as well as the health issues associated with dampness.

Our SFIR Home Improvements team specialise in cavity wall insulation removal.

SFIR Home Improvements Cavity wall removal, #cavity, #cavitywalls, #cavitywallinsulation,

We can help you improve the exterior of your building with our renovation services. Our team will remove bricks from the wall, they will then have access to the failed wall insulation, this could be formaldehyde foam, it could be a polyurethane spray foam, another method used by the insulation companies is polystyrene beads, and then polystyrene beads with glue or it could be a blown rock wool product, whatever the insulation, we at SFIR Home Improvements can help.

If your property’s location is within a high wind and rain area then exposure to this can cause penetrating damp. If your property suffers from damage to external walls such as cracks within the render, pointing or brickwork. Believe it or not, not everyone's property is suitable or appropriate for cavity insulation, of course if It has not been installed correctly or if the cavity is suffering from blockages as a result of building works, these can all be reasons your cavity wall may be failing.
