Mr & Mrs C from Essex made a purchase of new windows, the idea being that they wanted to change them so their house could be warmer and look better than it did previously. At the back of the house one of the rooms had a circular window (see picture above) and they wanted this to be changed to match the other windows, particularly they wanted an opening fire escape and a fanlight window to allow fresh air into that room. This is where their nightmare began.
The middle picture at the bottom was how the house used to look, the picture on the left was how it looked after the installation. So just how did this all happen?
They called in a national window company who told them they could do all of the work for them and sold and installed a whole full house of windows. The circular window, which you can see in the pictures above was changed to a rectangular window with a side opener and a fanlight, just what the customer wanted....... except the fitters managed to butcher the house and caused extensive damage to the structure of the property.
When changing the circular window they neglected first time around to add a lintel and had to revisit to install a concrete lintel, which can be seen in the top middle picture. Here you can see where the concrete lintel is and some of the damage that they caused to the house.
SFIR were called in and visited the property, we spoke with the homeowners and we prepared the quotation, we gave them time to think about the work required and from there the customers engaged SFIR to complete the works.
Because of the extensive damage caused to the property, by the time we were given instruction to start the works, the walls had progressively got a whole lot worse. The picture to the top right hand side shows how much damage was done by the ingress of water, which had been seeping into the cracks caused by the badly fitted windows and each time water got behind the render and then enlarged as it froze and then caused more render to blow, which you can see in the pictures above. The effects of the plaster
blowing then saw whole chunks become loose and dangerous.
Our professional crew started by erecting scaffolding, then they followed our five step procedure, where they prepared the walls, cleaning and removing all of the blown and damaged render, they masked the property and undertook the extensive repairs, which as you can see was to replace nearly the whole of the render to the rear and side of the building.
Once the render and repairs had been completed they then applied the primer coat, which adds protection to the property including waterproofing the walls and making them secure, this also ensures the walls are keyed and ready to accept the top coat, the finishing coat, which not only beautifies the property but leaves it protected.
The textured coating was sprayed on to surfaces using specialist heavy duty Graco spray equipment at up to 75psi air pressure. The completed coating is up to 20 times thicker than conventional paint The textured finish dries to a beautiful, uniform finish so the homeowners never need to paint again.
They were provided with our 10-year no quibble guarantee and both Mr & Mrs C were so grateful to the team and to us, they actually commented that they didn't think they would ever get their house repaired to that standard.
